I recieved my new paints today, swatched them, all good.
Then I wanted to make some colour studies for my next painting (a cute couple about to dance uhu), since I got some iridescent gold in it and I thought it would be perfect for this piece.
I had a sketchbook gifted to me a while ago that had 100% cotton paper and thought it would be better I used that as a preview for my painting. This is the sketchbook (ignore the red one for now):
Looks good right? It is NOT! And here's why:
the paper becomes yellow when wet
the paper absorbs water instantly, I wet the hell out of it, and it still didn't look like I was painting wet into wet
the paper bled through, HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU SEEN WATERCOLOUR PAPER BLEED???? for me it's the first time, look:
This is the back side of my page, WHAT?????
Now here's a comparison, same exact techniques, same paints, with my trusted sketchbook:
The paper was as wet as the sea and still my back stroked looked like I was adding them on top of dry paper.
You can see how I had to drag the paint in the swatches as if the whole world was against me.
I'm shocked. What am I gonna do with this paper????
I'm in a weird place in my life where I simply cannot fit everything I like and everything I want to do in the time health allows me to use. So I'm very confused, I don't know what do to, and all I can feel is being unless/unproductive, just all in all bad. I needed a new brush, and I didn't want to go to Paris and pay for the trip just for one brush. I didn't want to pay for delivery either, for ONE brush. Then, I guess Mister was really happy seeing me draw and paint again that he bought me 100€ worth of paints and brushes ... So yeah, I'll soon have new pigments to try.
Note: we share all our money, when I say "he bought me", I meant he thought it would be a good way of spending OUR money.
Meanwhile, here's what I recently did:
From my collections!
Featuring art from friendly suggestions. You can also participate by sharing art in the comments (see down below).
I'm taking suggestions for the "friendly feature" section.
/!\ I need A LOT of suggestions. /!\ Because I want to feature active deviants, sometimes between the moment I accept a suggestion and the moment I want to feature it, the artist became either temporarilly or permanently inactive on DA. So even though I currently have 75 pieces in my collection, the moment I try to set up a feature, I might remove 5-6 from the selection because of that 30day inactivity threshhold (don't worry, if it's 31 or even 35 days, I give it a pass, I'm not a monster... I hope )
Share as much as you want, but for each piece you share from your own gallery, please balance it with a piece from someone else: from your favs or from your friends' galleries.
Try to suggest art from active deviants (active within the last month), max 999 favs.
Keep in mind these are suggestions and I will pick those I like. So, don't hesitate sharing a lot! The more I have, the better looking features I will make.
Some things I will most likelly not select:
intrusive watermarks, such as the DA watermark
poorly scanned/photographed traditional art pieces
uncredited models/photographers (photography) or references (drawings and paintings)
AI generated pieces (full or partial)
adopts
Literature and comics are accepted! But please don't suggest more than 1 prose at a time, as I'll have to take the time to read it.
I don't mind featuring more than 1 piece from the same artist, especially if 2 pieces go really well together in a feature.
I had so much to say about this but ... now I don't have the words for it.
You might know me as someone who loves food, and I do, I love it! Food is really linked with happiness for me. And ... I don't like being alone. So ... less happy = difficult to feed myself. It really is that linked.
So, without saying more, bc, ugh, here are bad photos of all the meals (minus the repetitive ones) and snacks that fed me for 3 days. I didn't skin a single meal, nor a single snack time!
(for ex: I ate way more pizza, but there is only one photo, I ate way more muffins, but there is only one photo)
Pizza, polenta, rice and mushrooms were prepared by Mister before he left.
I made the white sauce with him help before he left too.
And the first salad is some leftovers.
The rest is just adding some stuff to the plate to make it more exciting, like olives or pickes; heating up the food, plating it nicelly, etc
This mandated a journal, because Luala is so damn proud of this one.
So, story: yesterday evening Mister and I decided we would try making onigirazu, the sushi sandwich thing, since Mister is on a journey of mastering sushi rice (or at least making it edible).
So, my first attemp: I wanted to make something with a variety of ingredients to make it interesting and ... it didn't work. First I'll show it to you, then I'll explain:
So, the thing here, it was tasteless, all you could feel was the rice, the nori sheet and the chilly sauce we dipped it in, as it was also dry. It was not enough food for a full meal. I had to eat a lot of other stuff after it.
Today, I made my second attempt, and it was perfect:
First of all, I reduced the filling to 2 things: a sizeable slice of smoked tofu and a thick layer of carrots. For these carrots, we did the same thing we did with the sweet potato the other day, but we doubled the sauce, so that the sandwich isn't dry and tastless. So more saucy and more flavourful!
We ate it with some leftover beetroot salad, it was so satisfying, and the quantity was enough for a meal!!! No need to extra dipping sauce, everything was in the carrots! Perfect formula for a takeaway meal, we might do that for when Mister goes to work.
And a note: the online recipes will tell you that you need a plastic wrap, or that you can use rice paper instead of the plastic wrap. No, you don't ... just wet the nori sheet edges and it will stick!
Oh, and Mister wants to show you his tart:
Have you ever made or tasted onigirazu?????
Breaking news, I'm useless! Now let's do the feature!
Ok, I lied, I just scored a food victory and here's more about it:
